Exposure and Curing

Post  Maggie on Fri Mar 27, 2009 12:38 am

The online instructions for making stamps with the Imagebox are different from the printed instructions that came with my product. These are the points that have different instructions:
  • What are the recommended times for exposing the back of the stamp and then the front?
  • How much water and salt should be used for the curing bath, and how long should the stamp be in the bath under the Imagebox?

I realize that we may need to test things out and tweak a little, but I'd like to know the points from which to start.

Thanks again!

Hi Maggie..

For use with the Imagebox I suggest starting with 30 seconds for the first side exposure and 12 minutes for the second side exposure.. as a base set of times and then work from there..

There is a little trial and error on the first plate you make as you will need to get a set time.. but remember the more plates you make the warmer the bulbs.. so if you are making a lot of plates all in one go.. times can be slightly reduced..

Regarding the de-tacking.. I use a little over a teaspoon in just enough water to cover my plate.. and then de-tack under the box for 15 minutes..

I also rinse the plate afterwards as I found this removes any salt residue..

If you try those times, feel free to let me know how you get on..

I appreciate your comments pms200203.. but please note that the information you are giving is infact incorrect.. as the 2 minutes and ten minutes cycle is for the Imagepac daylight system and NOT for the Imagebox UV system.

Also, the video you link to is for the daylight system and not for the UV system..

Imagebox was the world’s first exposure unit specifically designed for exposing Imagepac (UV cured) pre-packaged photopolymer.. this revolutionary system has been designed especially for home use.. and while you may be able to make your own system, this cannot be guaranteed due to the special design of the box and the other consumables used.

I plan to use my stamps primarily to stamp silver metal clay? Will my images be as clear or crisp as they would if were stamping paper if I use the same curing time?

Thank you.

Ladyhawke.. thankyou for your comment..

Regarding using stamps for SMC - I can't see why using the same times as stamps for paper wouldn't give as clear/crisp finish as long as you used a good release agent on the stamps when pressing into the SMC.. this would then allow the image to remain crisp.

I would love to see what you do with them.. feel free to email images over to dewdropcraftz@aol.com

Any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask..
